NEW YEAR! NEW GOALS!

So the end of the year is here. Now is the time to reflect & ask yourself have you accomplished your goals in 2011. If not, it's ok.  You now have 2012.  This year don't think of setting resolutions, but setting goals, mini goals.  Mini goals will help you get to the bigger goals you want to achieve.  Want to travel more? Start looking at packaged deals & when is the cheapest time to travel. Want to lose weight? Start doing a 10 minute jog before work & walk the dog more. By February you'll be a few pounds lighter. Want to start your own business?  Write down your objectives, create your logo, and get business cards made.  You CAN accomplish any goal you set for yourself but you have to start small.  Happy New Yea everyone.  Enjoy.

GET OUT OF BED

I know you have seen them.... people shopping in stores wearing their pajamas!!!!  I'm talking about those who wear Spongebob sweatpants and raggedy house slippers with dingy tee shirts.  But there are the other kinds of people who wear their pjs in public.  They looked polished, simple, and chic.  You look twice at them because they are going against the norm but in a tasteful way.

The classic pj can now be worn on the streets in stylish ways.  Take a look at some the photos of people wearing this look.  Would you dare do it yourself?  You can.  Just start small.  Maybe wear loafers with a white button down shirt and black denim pants.  To take it a step further pair your black denim with the loafers and a pj top.  Tuck the top into the front of your pants and let the back hang.  Add a clutch and a bold necklace.  This is simple yet different.  Enjoy.

WOMEN TO EMULATE IN 2012-KIMORA

Love her.  Hate her.  Whatever your preference is Kimora is smoking hot.  She is a strong woman who is not afraid to say what is on her mind (sometimes this can come off as rude).  She goes after what she wants and if told she can't she'll finds ways to get it.  Check out her photos in the new January issue of Harper’s Bazaar Singapore.  Enjoy!

STOP PROCRASTINATING

Are you looking for last minute gifts for your family and loved ones?  Here is a list of last minute gifts that doesn't seem last minute at all.

1. Restaurant.com-$25 e-gift cards for $1!!!!  FOR A $1!  You can't bet that.  The best part, the person you are sending the e-card to can choose their own restaurant.  You can't go wrong with food.  Put in password JOY to receive the offer, expires 12/23/11.

2. Video Games-You probably know at lest one or two  people who are gamers.  Kinect is big this holiday season for gamers.  Best Buy has a great deal on Kinect video games.  Buy 2 games get the 3rd free.  You can have 3 separate gifts or give all 3 to that special gamer in your life.

3. Wine-Two words Stella Rosa. This is great for the person who is new to wine. It is a sweet desert wine that many people ejoy. You can find it at BevMo, Costco, and many grocery stores.

4. Homebaked goodies-Do you have a sugar thumb? If so you can create treats & wrap them up in beautiful packaging. Everyone loves chocolate chip, sugar, or oatmeal raisin cookies.

5. Gift Cards-These are the best, especially if you know the persons favorite store. Put an amount that you can afford on the card. I wouldn't recommend the Visa or American Express gift cards, only because they charge fees.

I hope this list has inspired you to do your last minute shopping. Enjoy.

COOL LOOKS

I love this look from head to toe.  Tucked in jeans with the classic white shirt and black blazer.  The large necklace is very unexpected as is the bag.  Not too crazy about fringe, so I would switch out the bag.  It's sexy, modern, preppy.  Enjoy.

OUT RIGHT WRONG

I know we all should have the freedom of free speech, but it's wrong when words that are known to offend people are used in major publications.  There was a article posted about Rihanna in a Dutch fashion magazine named Jackie.  What was the writers intention, to give Rihanna her props or to totally degrade her?

She has street cred, she has a ghetto ass and she has a golden throat. Rihanna, the good girl gone bad, is the ultimate n***abitch and displays that gladly, and for her that means: what’s on can come off. If that means she’ll be on stage half naked, then so be it. But Dutch winters aren’t like Jamaican ones, so pick a clothing style in which your daughter can resist minus ten. No to the big sunglasses and the pornheels, and yes to the tiger print, pink shizzle and everything that glitters. Now let’s hope she won’t beat anybody up at daycare.

How does this happen?  The editor-in-chief Eva Hoeke then respons to the article once attention is drawn to the obvious wording used to describe Rihanna.

Dear readers,

First: thanks for all your responses. We are of course very fed up over this and especially very shocked. However I’m glad that we’re engaging in a dialogue on this page — not everybody does that. Thanks for this. Other than that I can be brief about this: this should have never happened. Period. While the author meant no harm — the title of the article was intended as a joke — it was a bad joke, to say the least. And that slipped through my, the editor-in-chief’s, fingers. Stupid, painful and sucks for all concerned. The author has been addressed on it, and now I can only ensure that these terms will no longer end up in the magazine. Furthermore I hope that you all believe there was absolutely no racist motive behind the choice of words. It was stupid, it was naive to think that this was an acceptable form of slang — you hear it all the time on tv and radio, then your idea of what is normal apparently shifts — but it was especially misguided: there was no malice behind it. We make our magazine with love, energy and enthusiasm, and it can sometimes happen that someone is out of line. And then you can only do one thing: apologize. And hope that others wish to accept it.

From the bottom of my heart I say it again: we never intended to offend anyone. And I mean that.

Regards,
Eva Hoeke

So then of course Rihanna responds to the article as which she should.

@evajackie I hope u can read english, because your magazine is a poor representation of the evolution of human rights! I find you disrespectful, and rather desperate!! You ran out of legit, civilized information to print! There are 1000′s of Dutch girls who would love to be recognized for their contributions to your country, you could have given them an article. Instead, u paid to print one degrading an entire race! That’s your contribution to this world! To encourage segregation, to mislead the future leaders to act in the past! You put two words together,

@evajackie with the intent of abasement, that made no sense…”N***A B***H”?!….Well with all respect, on behalf of my race, here are my two words for you…F**K YOU!!!

Eva Hoeke has resigned from her position.  She worked with the magazine for eight years.  With so much experience how did she let this slip through her fingers.  Was she thinking she was being hip & trendy because it seems the N-word is used so loosely?  I don't know what her exact thoughts were but it was very ignorant of her as an editor and as a person to allow a word that has a history of negative connotation to be published in her magazine.  However we are suppose to forgive those who do wrong to us.  Here is some scripture for your soul.

Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, "Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me?  Up to seven times?"  Jesus answered, "I'll tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.  Matthew 18:21-22

PEPPER SPRAYED

I love to run in the wee hours of the morning. Then I come home and walk my dog which happens to be in the dark now that it's winter. So when I came across this site that sells pepper spray I thought maybe I should get one. Normally you think of pepper spray for young women living on their own for the first time, mainly college women. But all woman should carry sometime of protection even if its self defense training. Guardian Girls have a wide variety of protection from pepper spray to tasers to stun guns.  I think I would opt for the athletic pepper spray.  However the crystal encrusted versions would look great for going out.  I also like the fact that they don't look like the big 'ol pepper spray.  Need a last minute gift idea.  This would be great for any woman in your life.  Enjoy.

YOU BE THE EDITOR

WOW!!  This model makes me want to rock a neon green sweater this winter.  Love how Sadia combined the pearls with the leather pant.  Its fierce lady like demure.  Love it.  Sadia has great sets on Polyvor.  I love the way how she builds an outfit based on one standout piece.  Enjoy

FALSE-IES

I love the look of thick, full, long lashes. Therefore I went to the extent of getting my lashes done by a professional. I was advised I could wear them up to 4 weeks with proper care. By week 3 my eyelids had a rash & the majority were damaged. With that being said I never wore them again. Until recently.  However I decided to start doing my own lashes on a daily basis with washable glue. Day 1-3 was hard but practice makes perfect. What had taken me 20 minutes now takes less than 5 minutes. Here are cool tutorials (click here & here) that are really good at assisting doing your own lashes. Soon you will be applying lashes as quickly as you can your mascara. Enjoy.

ORANGE YOU DELIGHTED

I can't tell you how excited I was to find out that the color for 2012 will be orange.  Well the correct name is Tangerine Tango.  Orange is my favorite color to wear.  It bring out my complexion and just looks great against my skin.  If you're not a fan of the hue, try incorporating it into your wardrobe by wearing a scarf that has the color in it.  Or try a nail polish, a hand bag, or earrings.  This color will brighten up your whole day.  Play with the different hues so it will compliment your skin tone.  Enjoy.

FASHION OR PORN

I love fashion. I love clothes. I love editorials. But every once in a while I just don't get it. What is the purpose of showing a models boobs while only wearing a skirt? Will that make the consumer want to run out & buy that skirt b/c they hope their boobs will look the same? Or what about when a model is completely naked & only wearing shoes. I know some can argue & say that it's artistic but sometimes I just don't get it.  Enjoy.

FABULOUS FOR FIVE

I love yard sales, moving sales, garage sales, etc.  Today I found a great score on this tunic for $5.00.  Great deal considering its new, never been worn, and was originally $22.80.  I think I will pair this with skinny jeans, lil booties, a long sleeve shirt, a scarf, and blazer to complete the look.  Send me photos of your awesome purchases.  Enjoy.

THAT IS LOVELY

When I first seen this photo the one thing that caught my eye was the green shoes and the matching green eyeshadow.  Oh My, how lovely they are.  The dress, the hair, the pose, and even the background is just so pretty.  I love it.  I found some great alternatives of the green shoes.  Enjoy

THE BRIGHTER SIDE OF TIGHTS

I'm glade I'm not the only one who wanted to rock bright color tights.  My dilemma was finding the right way to wear them.  Black is always safe but not as fun.  So of course I loved this photo of Sarah Jessica Parker wearing her bright teal tights with a khaki color trenched, camel lace up pumps and neutral color dress.  It doesn't scream "Look At Me" seeing her wear this look.  So now I'm inspired to purchase my bright color tights.  Maybe I'll go for hot pink or jewel toned purple.  I found this site called We Love Colors.  They offer a wide variety of tights, leggings, plus sizes, etc in over 50 colors.  The tights are only $8 with a $5 flat shipping rate (USA only check website for shipping outside USA).  If you are looking for SJP's teal color they have them available here.  Enjoy.

TRUE BEAUTY

Is this computer generated model considered picture perfect? What is beauty to me may not be beauty to you. Yes it does suck that companies feel compelled to display images of the skinnier side of beauty and not the realistic side of it, but at the end of the day it is their company. If I was a clothing designer I would have models of all shapes, sizes, and ethnicities (however my passion is not to design clothing, just shopping for them). Don't be so hard on yourself ladies if you don't look like this computer generated model. The real beauty comes from the inside anyway because as we all know physical beauty fades. Enjoy.
