THE SIGNATURE

I've been in this funk for the past six months.  I needed a change and the only thing I could change at the moment was my hair.  I have always been a chameleon when it comes to my hair.  But something happened.  I found a style I LOVED.  My signature style was big hair with a slight texture to it.  I've been dedicated to that style for years (plus my boyfriend, now husband loved it).  Every once and a while I would rock something different for a few weeks.  But I always came back to my signature. These past few months have been different.  My signature style was stale.  I needed something new.  Last week I found it.  My new style is still true to my signature, big hair, style but with a twist.  This time it is a little more natural, a little more raw, a little more untamed, and unexpected.  I love my new signature (but I still love my old one too).  Do you have a signature hairstyle, color, perferum, etc that is a part of you?  Be who you want to be and don't let anyone besides yourself define who you are.

TREND: PRINTED DENIM PANTS

I don't know how I feel about this new trend, printed denim. I've seen some bad styles that wouldn't look good on the best supermodel. But then I have seen some prints that I wouldn't mind trying myself. I am tempted to try this style but since I'm no longer considered a twenty something woman would it be in bad taste to experiment with this trend?  I say no. I just wouldn't wear all the trends of this season from head to toe. You know what I'm talking about...printed denim with a crop neon top and color block wedges. That would be a disaster (even if I wore it on the weekend). So instead I put together this look that is more appropriate and in better taste. Would you wear this trend?

GUILTY LITTLE PLEASURES

A coworker introduced me to Parisian macaroons last year.  I fell in love, sorry Target chocolate chip cookie (they are huge and only $1).  A macaroon is a meringue like cookie that has the best texture imaginable.  It's a little crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside.  If you don't like almonds you most likely wont like a Parisian macaroon.  But if you do.... you'll love them, they are made out of almonds.  There are so many flavors that is difficult to make a selection once at the bakery.  My favorite so far is the pistachio flavor.   For something to be so small they pack a lot of sweetness that can satisfy the biggest sweetooth.  Maybe I can ask Tasha, my cousin who bakes, if she can attempt to make me some of these delicious little treats.  I'm a little intimidated to make them myself.  Martha Stewart has a lot of different flavors to try making yourself.

Enjoy!

THAT'S DECEIVING

I love how magazines give direction about what to wear for your body type and then they show a typical model for every shape.  These images are from the June 2012 issue of Elle.  It can be so deceiving at times.  You have to look deeper at the images.  For instance I have a hourglass shape, however the model shown below doesn't have any curves (to me).  She has the illusion of curves because of the way the swimsuit is made (the yellow fabric around her obliques).  Also I'm too sure the granny bottoms will make my shape look great.

ENOUGH ALREADY

Is it just me or are you tired of seeing photos of nail art?  For some reason it reminds me of bedazzled craze.  Remember when it became so popular that everyone was bedazzling everything.  Everyone from babies to grandma's were wearing bedazzled jackets, pants, dresses, hats, shoes, and the list goes on and on.  Don't get me wrong, when my cousin shown me her nail art (back in 2007) I was like, "cool, I want to try that."  Now I'm like "please stop posting photos."  I do love the neon colors, the one rhinestone, and the ombre effect nails (when done right).  But for some reason I just can't justify going to the nail salon and spending $45 to get nail art that will chip & fade within a couple of weeks.  Now they have a cheesy device that you can use at home to do your own nail art for a fraction of the cost.  I would rather spend $10 and get the minx nail stickers.  But to each their own.  I think I will continue with my solid but beautiful in color nail polishes.

ROCKING THE NU-NATURAL

Brandy looked great at the Billboard Music Awards.  Her hair was fly (and I'm loving the shoes).  It feels like so many women, including celebs, are going for the nu-natural hairstyles.  Kelly Rowland has been rocking the nu-natural for some time now.   Celebrities such as Esperanza Spalding and Yaya DaCosta have been wearing their natural hair.  Their naturalness has inspired many to go au-natural.  Whether its your own natural hair or you're just faking it, nu-natural styles are hot.

I am now part of a wonderful group called Style Bloggers of Color.  The name says it all, check it out.  There is a blogger conference coming up June 8th in Hot-Lanta.  I've never been there.  I think this will be my opportunity to go.  It will so much fun to meet other blogger and hear guest speakers give advice.

LETS PLAY NICE

Do you think this girl is fat?  Maybe overweight?  According to some she is.  Shawn Johnson gained some weight over a three year period.  And to her surprise the media noticed and made bad remarks about her.  She had good reason for not keeping her 4'11" framed in shape.  She tore her ACL while skiing.  My reasoning for writing this article is to say lets stop talking about people who are not fat.  Let stop talking about fat people.  We all have insecurities.  We all have muffin tops, a weird nose, too skinny/big legs, too small/big feet, a mole,  ....and the list goes on.  Before judging someone about their physical appearance lets first judge our self, we're not perfect.  I hope this article will help someone to hold their tongue before speaking because words do hurt.  Instead give a compliment and brighten up someones day.  To read full article about Shawn Johnson click here.

HOT & CHEAP

There is something about advertisement that can draw you into the fantasy world of the ad.  You want to be the person in the ad, you want to be where they are, you want to do what they're doing.  H&M's newest ad for their swimsuit line does just that.   The model is floating in clear aqua water with a deep tan.  Obviously she somewhere relaxing.  H&M's new swimsuit line is starting off as low as $4.95.  So somehow we all can be like this woman floating in the waters of a tropical beach without paying $50+ for a suit.  Good advertisement can make cheap items look chic.

SIBLING RIVALRY

Dress off war... between big sis Beyonce and lil sis Solange a the MET Gala last night.  Solange looked stunning in a bright yellow peplum dress made by Rachel Roy.  The dress was simple and the color was so vibrant.  Her hair was gorgeous, her makeup was immaculate, and her skin was radiant.  Solange was the queen of the red carpet.

Beyonce arrived "fashionably" late in Givenchy.  I was disappointed in her choice of dress.  She can normally pull off anything.  But there was too much going on, the lace, the beads, the sheer fabric, the feathers, and that shade of purple.  Sorry Beyonce but your sister has won match.

FASHIONABLY PREGO

My Hubby and I just talked about how our count down to conception is just around the corner.  We are so excited to start this new chapter.  I have the best intentions to be fashionable while pregnant.  But I hear there are days when sweatpants and flip flops is the ideal comfort.  I've been searching for inspiration on the web of fashionable pregnant women.  Some of the images below are from Babble.  They have great images of inspiration.  I wonder how long I, personally, will be able to keep walking in my heels and taking time to do my hair and makeup.  We'll just have to see.  Are you a fashionably prego woman?  Share your most stylish photos.
